The Egyptions were known to have used Reflexology on the hands and feet 2330BC. It was the Chinese who accidently discovered that pain disappeared when a point on the skin was pricked. They mapped out charts of zone therapy and acupuncture points. |

| Similar methods are described in european countries in 1582 by physicians
Adamus and A'Tatis. The great Flotentine sculptor Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571)
used strong pressure on fingers and toes to relieve pain everywhere in his
body.
The twentieth American President James A Garfield was able to alleviate pain due to an assasination attempt by applying pressure to various points. The reflex points were known in India and are still used for pain relief and also by various North American tribes. Dr William Fitzgerald is the founder of 'Zone Therapy'. He first introduced the treatment in 1916 using zone therapy similar to that mapped by the Chinese 2000 years before. He produced the first book for doctors, dentists, gynacologists, ENT specialists and chiropractors In the early 1930's Zone Therapy became more refined into foot reflexology. Eunice Ingham, a pysiotherapist decided to concentrate on the reflexes in the feet with an altenating pressure using the thumb and fingers. In 1938 she wrote the first book on Reflexology called 'Stories Feet Can Tell' and she is now recognised as the founder of Foot Reflexology.
